SynTherm® HV-D

High-performance polymer film for high-voltage and power electronics

SynTherm® HV-D is a chemical-resistant, high-performance material designed for demanding applications in power electronics and high-voltage technology. The material has been specifically developed for applications involving high electric field strengths, elevated temperatures and stringent requirements for creep current resistance.

With a CTI rating of ≥600, SynTherm® HV-D offers maximum safety for critical clearances and creepage distances. This makes the material ideally suited for high-voltage applications, such as in battery systems, inverter solutions and other power electronics components.

SynTherm® HV-D impresses with its high thermal stability, excellent electrical insulation properties and strong resistance to chemical influences. Even under continuous electrical and thermal stress, the material ensures reliable and long-lasting performance, thereby contributing to the safe and efficient design of modern high-voltage systems.

SynTherm® HV-D: Optimal properties for the electrical industry

  • High temperature resistance: up to 150 °C and remains flexible even at low temperatures
  • Excellent electrical insulation: due to very high dielectric strength
  • Highest creep current resistance (CTI ≥ 600)
  • Mechanical strength: very good elongation at break for durability
  • Fire safety: flame-retardant (DIN 4102-B1) and UL 94 VTMO
  • Weather resistance: high resistance to environmental influences and ageing
  • Outstanding hydrolysis resistance
  • Very low grammage
  • High light transmission

The versatile applications of SynTherm® HV-D in the electrical industry

The durable SynTherm® HV-D is well known for its use in architecture. Here, the material is used for translucent canopies due to its self-cleaning properties.

Owing to its high dielectric strength and temperature resistance, SynTherm® HV-D is also used in the electrical industry:

  • Insulation of cables and electrical conductors
  • Insulation material in flexible printed circuit boards
  • In high-voltage applications to improve air and creepage distances
  • Protective film or coating for electronic components to protect against moisture, dust, chemicals and mechanical damage
  • Insulation and protection of battery cells to prevent short circuits and ensure thermal stability
  • Screen protectors for touchscreens

These properties make SynTherm® HV-D particularly valuable in battery systems and power electronics – areas where chemical-resistant, high-performance films are in demand.
